Know the difference between an asset and a liability. The dividing line is whether it puts money in your pocket, or takes it out. As much as you love your home, for instance, it is a liability rather than an asset because you put more money into it than you get out of it (unless you’re flipping it or renting it out). Whatever money you save, invest it in assets such as stocks, mutual funds, patents, copyrighted works–anything that generates interest or royalties. Eventually, you might get to the point where your assets are doing the work for you, and all you have to do is sit there and make money!

While you have to be careful when evaluating direct-selling business opportunities, that’s not to say there aren’t good ones out there. Just keep in mind that whether it’s cosmetics, containers, or some other product, the operative word in any direct sales business is “sales.” For such a business to be successful, products must be sold. Workers typically get paid $10 per test. Some testers report that opportunities can be sporadic and competitive. But as a recurring gig, UserTesting can be a real boon for people who are already online.

Most businesses won’t be keen to advertise on your podcast until you can prove a large number of listeners. Therefore, it is unlikely you will be able to start out from the get-go with sponsors. But once you accumulate regular listeners, or a high number of downloads from iTunes, you can start to sell advertising space on your podcasts.
Parents are often seeking out instructors to help their children develop musical talent. Sure, some parents may be just trying to make their kids appear well rounded on college applications, but there are also plenty of students looking for a rewarding skill to last them into adulthood.
